Our Impact
We have now spoken to over 9000 students in the UK about Organ Donation
Before our talks 10% of students were on the organ donor registry and after 54% planned to join!
We have shown that early education about organ donation in schools increases student awareness of the issues in transplantation.
Since 2021 our Blood Drives have achieved...

A Growing Network
We Are Donors is a network of groups aiming to increase the number of organ and blood donors across the UK through student led education at schools and universities. Each group organises educational talks and workshops at local schools and events at their universities including blood drives run by We Are Donors university student Ambassadors. The university groups works closely with the We Are Donors National Steering Committee. A committee formed by students, doctors, surgeons, and other volunteers, who are responsible for helping student groups and for achieving the We Are Donors mission.
How we Started
Founded by Students
We Are Donors was founded in 2016 by a group of students from Newcastle University who wanted to try and help solve the waiting list crisis for Organ donation. We thought that there must be a solution to the problem through education and so we trialled about Organ donation to children in secondary schools. We were amazed to receive such great feedback from schools about our talks and also a measurable increase in children’s positive perception of Organ donation! We now believe that the solution is through early informative education by near-age peers- ie. University students. We hope that through our outreach program and university events we will save lives in the future!
